Christmas Decor on a Budget

Christmas is my favourite Holiday. As soon as Halloween is over, I start gearing up for all things Christmas: decorating, baking, shopping for family and friends, and everything in between.

Everyone has an opinion on when it’s “appropriate” to start decorating for Christmas. Some say right after Halloween; some say after Remembrance Day, out of respect for our veterans; some say after Thanksgiving (in Canada, ours is early October); some say December 1st. For me, it’s right after Halloween and when I have the opportunity, in between working, the kids extra curricular activities and keeping house.

When I do finally get around to decorating, I find it can be a little overwhelming. Walking the seasonal aisles of stores can be dangerous. I find myself thinking: oooo I love that; ooooo I need that; oohhhhh this is so nice, I should get this. STOP. This is where the purpose of this post begins…

Before you purchase new Christmas decor, make sure you shop your home first. More often than not you forget about what you have packed away. Maybe you purchased some new ornaments or faux trees during a Boxing week sale – I know I have. Go through all of your decor and see what you have, and what you don’t need. Try to sell items you no longer want, or purge what you don’t need.

If you do decide to purchase a few new pieces for your home, set a budget for yourself. This will prevent you from going overboard in a store like Home Sense. Who else wants to fill their shopping cart every time they go there? It can be so overwhelming.

Try out a Christmas DIY. Pinterest is a wonderful thing and if you are having trouble coming up with DIY idea’s, that is a great place to start. You may find that you have all the items you need in your home, for the perfect DIY.

Don’t go overboard. Less is more. Clean and simple looks are my favourite. You don’t need to fill a sideboard with Christmas trinkets; and mantels look timeless with some garland, candles and stockings.

Shop your home.
Set a budget.
Less is more.

I cannot wait to share my Christmas home decor with you this season. I promise you I follow all of these things.

Happy decorating!

Summer to Fall Transition Outfits: Instalment Four

We have all heard that you’re not supposed to wear white after labour day. I’m not sure who came up with this “rule” but I don’t follow it. I love a good ol’ pair of white distressed denim jeans with a nice big cardi and cute pair of booties in the fall.

So for this week’s instalment? You guessed it. How to transition white pants into your fall wardrobe; and I’m showing you how with my favourite distressed denim pair.

I love the look of brown on white. Pairing them with this rust coloured waffle henley and a cute pair of booties is a great look for fall.

Who says white can only be a summer colour?  You can shop this look here:

One of my favourite things to pair with distressed white denim pants is a big soft cardi. This luxe tank I wore all through the summer and this cardi I purchased from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

You can pair this outfit with a bootie or your favourite pair or flats or mules.

You can shop this look here:

I recently picked up this ruffle sleeve tee for fall and it comes in so many colour options. I love this striped colour with white pants and a light grey bootie.

This look is simple and casual and you can throw on a light jacket or cardigan on a cooler day.

You can shop this look here:

So don’t be so quick to toss your white pants to the back of your closet until next Spring/Summer. Incorporate them into your fall wardrobe!

Summer to Fall Transition Outfits: Instalment Three

This is probably my favourite instalment in this series thus far! I looove sweatshirts! I found three lightweight sweatshirts that are perfect for transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall. None of them are heavy, material wise and they all look super cute with a pair or shorts or pants!

These outfits are great for cooler nights or when you still aren’t ready to pack away your favourite shorts.

My favourite sweatshirt out of the three has to be this camo one. It comes in seven other colours and it’s currently on sale for 40% off. I love it paired with a pair of distressed denim shorts and cute sneakers; but it would also look great with a pair of leggings too.

I will definitely have to grab it in another colour or two.

Shop it here:

I have shared with you before how I have been loving red lately, so when I saw this sweatshirt I knew I had to have it.

It does come in other colours and is super soft. Again, it looks cute with a pair of denim shorts, but would also look great with a pair of jeans on a chillier day.

It’s sold out in red because the sweatshirt is currently on sale for $13! So hurry and grab one in another colour before they are all sold out!

Shop this look here:

I purchased this sweater in the spring and I wore it until the weather was too warm for long sleeves. I love how lightweight it is and the length is perfect.

I like the raw cut edging of it and it reminds me of sweatshirts I wore as a kid. I have worn it with both shorts and leggings. It washes really well and doesn’t pill, and it’s currently on sale for under $24.

It comes in four other colours including olive which is a perfect colour for fall.

2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Top Picks

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale went public yesterday which means I was finally able to shop it. It opens up for early access to the U.S. sooner than it does in Canada, but it went public for all on July 20.

My closest Nordstrom is just under an hour drive away and I lucked out because the store was DEAD and I got my size in everything I was looking for except one thing, which I am having shipped to my home from a Vancouver store. Just another awesome customer service perk at Nordstrom. I didn’t purchase everything here but I did try all of these items on.

I have saved my try-on session on my Instagram story highlights so follow me over @pinkandblueblog to check it out.

Here are some of my favourite finds of the sale this year:

Halogen Violet Genuine Calf Hair Mule

These shoes were my first try-on of the sale and I loved them the second I put them on! They are so comfortable and can be worn both dressy and casual.

BP Kerry Bootie

I love these booties. They are comfortable and more casual but I love the detail on the side. The mushroom colour was my favourite and they look so cute with a pair of jeans. I sized up 1/2 a size in these.

Steve Madden Reece Sock Bootie

I feel like these aren’t getting the attention they deserve! They are such a nice fit, and because the top part of the bootie is like a sock it suctions right to your leg. They are so sleek and would look great with a dress or pants.

BP Brice Notched Bootie

These are a must for fall. They are so comfortable and I love the style of them. They aren’t stiff around the ankle (sometimes I find booties will leave an indent just above my ankle when I walk), and are available in three other colours.

Leith Henley Woven Shirt – Black & White

This shirt is currently sold out. They only had XL at the location I was at and I am having it shipped from another store. I love it because it will be great for work and would look great under a black blazer, or casually with a pair of jeans. Hoping this restocks for you!

Socialite Button Front Top

This top is so soft and I love the fit. It is currently sold out in white but it also comes in black and burgundy. I sized up in this.

Leith Ribbed Shawl Cocoon Sweater

This cardigan is so versatile and comes in five colours. I love the brown spice colour for fall. I like the slouchy fit of it and you can wear it both dressy at the office or casual with a pair of jeans

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Cardigan

This is the coziest sweater, EVER. These never go on sale so you need to snag it on sale while you can! It fits TTS. It comes in either S/M or L/XL.

Chelsea28 Oversize Open Cardigan

This oversized cardigan is a staple item for your wardrobe. You can throw it over a dress, tee, or tank. It comes in four other colours and the sizing is XS/S or M/L.

Thread & Supply Wubby Fleece Pullover

You will find me living in this every weekend at the hockey arena this winter while I watch my son play hockey. It is so soft and it does come in a full zipper option with a hood but I love the pullover. I sized up a size because I wanted it to be a loser, comfier fit.  (I have long arms and found the small was a little short in the sleeves.)

Leith Sleek Knit Midi Dress

This dress is super flattering. It is currently sold out but will hopefully re-stock. I loved it in black and fit true to size. You can pair it with a cardigan or a blazer.

Articles of Society – Sarah Skinny Jeans

These jeans are amazing and are such a great price in the sale. They are so soft and it feels like you are wearing a pair of leggings – they fit true to size.

Zella Live In High Waist Leggings

If you are going to purchase anything from the sale, it has to be these. I LOVE them! I can see why they are called the “live in” leggings. They hold everything in and are so comfortable – what more can you ask for? They are on major sale and come in two other colours. I got them in both black and navy.

BLANKNYC Meant to be Moto Jacket with Removable Hood

This faux leather jacket is actually really nice; unfortunately it is sold out online but will hopefully restock. It does come with a detachable hood which I would say detach immediately and toss aside. I think it looks so much better without the hood. I would size up a size in this, especially if you have long arms.

Adidas Originals Trefoil Tank

This tank is really comfy and fits well but wasn’t part of the sale in-store for some reason. It is showing as being included in the sale online. It fits true to size.

Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body XL Shimmer Shape, Hydrate & Glow

This was not something I was looking for but I sampled it and loved it. This is a fan favourite and you can currently purchase it in a limited edition jumbo size, and it’s included in the sale. It has de-puffing agents and gives the illusion of longer, leaner limbs  while toning down any red pigments you have.

That’s my round-up of the sale. Happy Shopping!

Winners Summer Dress Finds Under $30

Now that summer has arrived, it’s time to bring out all of the cute summer dresses. Summer brings BBQ’s, outdoor parties and weddings; and I found three cute and VERY affordable dresses at Winners that are perfect for all of these occasions.

The Green Dress

This beauty was only $29.99 and it’s gorgeous. It’s so simple but the detail on the sleeves, neckline and pockets adds so much to it. I love this shade of green and it’s perfect for an outdoor summer wedding. Did I mention the pockets? I love when dresses have pockets.

The Red Dress

I am not one to wear red often but this one caught my eye and I loved the fit of it.  I like that you can wear this both dressy and casual. I have it paired with these cute espadrilles (also from Winners) for a more formal look, and this one was $24.99. Slap on your favourite red lipstick and you’re good to go. 🙂

Cute, right?

The Maxi Romper

Technically this is a romper but I am categorizing it as a dress find because it’s a maxi too. This one I wasn’t too sure about when I saw it on the hanger, but after trying it on, I loved it! I love the big pink flowers against the black material and it’s actually really comfortable. This really steps up the romper game and was only $29.99.

I love the flow of it and again it can be worn both casual or more formal with a cute pair of heels and your favourite purse or clutch.

It’s so stinkin’ cute! I love these kinds of finds from Winners, and each under $30!

Father’s Day Amazon Gift Guide

Every year I struggle with what to buy my Dad for Father’s Day. What do you buy the guy who has everything? I often resort to buying things related to being a Grandpa and have the kids give it to him. I think I am too old to make him a t-shirt with my handprints on it. Hehe.

I decided I would throw a gift guide together with Amazon finds to help find the perfect gift for your Dad or your partner. Hopefully this sparks some inspiration for you!

  1. SMRITI 16-Inch Canvas Messenger Bag Laptop Crossbody Shoulder Bag $39.99 – It says it’s black but it is more of a charcoal grey. I actually bought this for the kids Dad for his birthday this year. It measures 15.7 x 12.2 x 4.3 inches and can hold a 15.6″ laptop, iPad/tablet, files, binders, travel mug/water bottle and so much more. I like that it has a separate compartment for your laptop. It features real cowhide leather trims and the front flap has a magnetic closure. It’s the perfect messenger bag and the reviews prove this to be true.
  2. Walnut Wood Wayfarer Sunglasses For Men & Women with Polarized Lenses GOWOOD $49 – I love these because they are Canadian made. Each pair has its own unique wood grain and they have darker lenses and rounded ear pieces for comfort. They are so trendy right now and I love the look of them!
  3. Daniel Wellington Men’s Black Leather Watch $112.19 – I love the classy, simple stylish design of this watch and love the rose gold accents and leather band. It also comes in white. The price point of this watch is also affordable.
  4. Yeti Tundra Cooler, 45 quart $449.99 – This item has the highest price point on this guide; but you’re getting what you pay for. These coolers come in various colours and sizes. This particular size can hold approximately 26 cans (just to give you a visual). It keeps things cold for days and even acts as an extra seat/stool without having to worry about the lid caving in.
  5. DEWALT 20-Volt Max Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Drill Kit $188 – This is a great deal! The regular price is $249.99 and the sale comes just in time for Father’s Day. I am not going to pretend to know anything about tools but this kit looks like a steal! The combo kit includes a Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Driver and Impact Driver, 2 20-volt MAX lithium-ion battery packs, a charger and a contractor bag

Rose Gold Gifts for Her this Valentine’s

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I thought it would be fun to throw a few ideas together for things to get for her, with a rose gold theme.

Rose gold is trending in a big way and I love it. My favourite rose gold item to date is my Kate Spade blanket which I shared with you in an earlier post.

So here are a few things I came up with that I think you will like love.

  1. I love these earrings. They are the Timeless Elegance, PANDORA Rose™ & Clear CZ stud earrings. They also come in a circular shape so it just depends on your preference, but I think both are absolutely stunning.
  2. The Fitbit Alta HR in pink rose gold is lovely. If you are looking for a heart rate and fitness tracker that looks stylish, then you will love this. The rose gold is a special edition, and is actually a little pricier than the standard colours. If you shop quickly, you will save $50 (linked below).
  3. If you are looking for a decent set of headphones and are willing to spend a fair bit of money, then you will love these. These Beats Solo 3 wireless headphones in rose gold are just so darn pretty. Long gone are the days of those clunky looking black headphones that you picture a farmer wearing while riding a lawn tractor. These are currently 20% off, so again shop now!
  4. This Michael Kors watch is stunning with its rose gold toned hardware and leather. I love that you can wear it with a pair of jeans or with your favourite little black dress. I also like the leather strap. To be honest, I haven’t owned a leather-strapped watch since I was a kid, but this one is lovely.
  5. These Steve Madden quilted slip on sneakers are adorable. They come in a variety of colours but I love this colour for Spring, and they look super comfortable.

Shop any of these items below, Valentine’s Day is almost here! (All prices below are CA)

  1. Timeless Elegance, PANDORA Rose™ & Clear CZ $110
  2. Fitbit Alta HR, Pink Rose Gold – small  $229.95 $179.95
  3. Beats Solo 3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones Rose Gold $329.95 $263.96
  4. Michael Kors Cynthia Rose Gold-tone and Embossed-leather Watch  $295
  5. Steve Madden Ecntrcqt Quilted Slip on Sneakers – Blush $80
