Pink Lemon Decor: Christmas Edition

You all know how much I adore my friend Amber and her handmade sign business: Pink Lemon Decor. I have shared her on here and on my Instagram many times; and I am so excited to share the Christmas signs that made it into my home this year. They have added so much “Christmas” to our home, I just had to share them with you!

Her designs are timeless and she has so many options to choose from.

I think her “Merry Christmas” sign is my favourite! This one is a must!

I ended up moving some furniture around before starting to decorate for Christmas; and I’m so happy with how this mini gallery wall over the couch turned out.

This sign I had such a dilemma with. I couldn’t figure out if I wanted to order it with the red, blue or black truck. I ended up going with it in black and I love how it looks!

I actually decorated this space around the “Hot cocoa” and “Have yourself a merry little Christmas” signs. I decided to make it a coffee bar/hot chocolate station. The hot cocoa sign is just too cute!

Okay, it’s your turn to shop! Head over to Pink Lemon Decor and use code pinkandblue10 for 10% off your entire purchase. (If you are looking to order signs for Christmas, you must order by November 25).

Back to School with Mabel’s Labels

Where did the summer go?! I can’t believe the kids are back to school tomorrow.

Today is all about getting everything ready to go: backpacks, shoes, school supplies… which means labelling all of these items too.

I have been using Mabel’s Labels since Maxton started daycare. A friend gifted me some on his first birthday and I loved them! I have continued ordering them ever since.

They have so many different options and designs it’s so hard to choose! They have labels for all ages and you can shop what you’re looking for by their suggested categories:  school, daycare, camp, university, new baby or travel.

I love their Ultimate Back-to-School Combo because it has everything I need to label all of their items for school. The combo pack includes

  • 40 Mini Custom Name Stickers: 38mm x 8mm (1-1/2″ x 5/16″)
  • 70 Tag Mates™ Stick On Clothing Labels: 21mm x 10mm (13/16″ x 3/8″)
  • 16 Custom Shoe Stickers (8 pairs): 33mm (1.3″)
  • 2 Personalized Mini Tags: 30mm x 20mm (1-1/4″ x 3/4″)

This combo is $42 which is such a great price considering what is included, and how long the pack will last.

All labels are dishwasher safe, microwave safe and waterproof. The clothing labels have never peeled, no matter how many times they have gone through the washer and dryer. I love that I can label their school containers and not have to worry about the labels lifting at the corners after going through the dishwasher.

They have so many designs, styles and fonts to choose from. I chose the hockey design for Maxton, and the mermaid design for Everly.

I get a little label happy this time of year, but how can you not with all of their labeling options? They even introduced a new Custom Clothing Stamp that lasts approximately 50 washes and the stamp lasts approximately 1000 applications. I love this idea!

You can shop for your Mabel’s Labels here, and use coupon code PINKANDBLUE for 10% off of your order!

Father’s Day Amazon Gift Guide

Every year I struggle with what to buy my Dad for Father’s Day. What do you buy the guy who has everything? I often resort to buying things related to being a Grandpa and have the kids give it to him. I think I am too old to make him a t-shirt with my handprints on it. Hehe.

I decided I would throw a gift guide together with Amazon finds to help find the perfect gift for your Dad or your partner. Hopefully this sparks some inspiration for you!

  1. SMRITI 16-Inch Canvas Messenger Bag Laptop Crossbody Shoulder Bag $39.99 – It says it’s black but it is more of a charcoal grey. I actually bought this for the kids Dad for his birthday this year. It measures 15.7 x 12.2 x 4.3 inches and can hold a 15.6″ laptop, iPad/tablet, files, binders, travel mug/water bottle and so much more. I like that it has a separate compartment for your laptop. It features real cowhide leather trims and the front flap has a magnetic closure. It’s the perfect messenger bag and the reviews prove this to be true.
  2. Walnut Wood Wayfarer Sunglasses For Men & Women with Polarized Lenses GOWOOD $49 – I love these because they are Canadian made. Each pair has its own unique wood grain and they have darker lenses and rounded ear pieces for comfort. They are so trendy right now and I love the look of them!
  3. Daniel Wellington Men’s Black Leather Watch $112.19 – I love the classy, simple stylish design of this watch and love the rose gold accents and leather band. It also comes in white. The price point of this watch is also affordable.
  4. Yeti Tundra Cooler, 45 quart $449.99 – This item has the highest price point on this guide; but you’re getting what you pay for. These coolers come in various colours and sizes. This particular size can hold approximately 26 cans (just to give you a visual). It keeps things cold for days and even acts as an extra seat/stool without having to worry about the lid caving in.
  5. DEWALT 20-Volt Max Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Drill Kit $188 – This is a great deal! The regular price is $249.99 and the sale comes just in time for Father’s Day. I am not going to pretend to know anything about tools but this kit looks like a steal! The combo kit includes a Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Driver and Impact Driver, 2 20-volt MAX lithium-ion battery packs, a charger and a contractor bag

Asobu Bottles

If there are two things I can’t stand it’s cold coffee and warm water. I NEED to have hot coffee (which is sort of an oxymoron when you have little ones) and I NEED to have cold water. I don’t know why, I have just never been a fan of room temperature water. So when I first heard about the Asobu products and the length of time their bottles kept things both hot and cold I was excited to test them out, and boy did they deliver.

I have both the Diva Cup Vacuum Beverage Container (in white) and the Le Baton Travel Bottle (in white copper) and they both keep my coffee piping hot. The Le Baton specifically keeps beverages cold up to 24 hours and hot up to 8 hours. I love the sleek and modern design of the Diva Cup (15oz), and the Le Baton Travel Bottle (17oz) not only keeps my coffee hot, it’s so stylish with its matte finish. I wouldn’t toss that specific travel bottle in my purse though because the matte finish is more likely to stain. That’s just the OCD in me talking.

Hydration! The double wall stainless steel Oasis Water Bottle comes in six trendy colours, and I have it in the peach. This one is 20oz and it stays cool for up to 24 hours! I forgot it on my desk at work one night and when I came in the next day the water was still cool! I love the design of this bottle and it’s not clunky looking and fits well in my purse; AND it’s dishwasher safe.

One of my favourite products from Asobu is the Fresh N Go Air Tight Tumbler. This is pure genius. This bottle comes with a built in pump to vacuum insulate smoothies and shakes, to keep them fresh and preserve all the health benefits of your favourite nutritious drinks! It also comes with a straw, mixing ball and recipe book; and it’s available in six colours (I have it in blue). Even my littlest one thought it was “super cool”.

I am a huge fan of these products and if you head over to my Instagram @pinkandblueblog I am sharing a coupon code to save you 20% off your next purchase.

Mascara: L’ Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise vs Arbonne It’s A Long Story

For years I have been using Arbonne’s It’s A Long Story Mascara, and I have loved it. It’s not clumpy, it doesn’t flake throughout the day, it’s water-resistant and longwearing, and it actually smells nice with it’s pea and bamboo extracts. It creates the look of longer fuller lashes with it’s flexible brush with uniform-bristles to apply the mascara, for lash-by-lash definition. I really love the brush and how it separates and lengthens each lash. What it doesn’t do is make your lashes appear thicker. While it does such an AMAZING job of separating and lengthening, it doesn’t give that “thicker” look.

I recently heard that L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Paradise was a great dupe of the Two Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (which I have tried), so I thought I would try it. I was VERY impressed.

This one does not lengthen the same way as the It’s A Long Story, but I find it does add a lot of volume to my lashes. Yes, it does look more clumpy, but it’s worth it. Two coats is the perfect amount and it is also longwearing. It does come in waterproof and I am wearing blackest black. The only thing I found I didn’t like was it does flake a slight amount throughout the day. Nothing crazy, but I don’t find that happens with It’s A Long Story. I like the size of the brush and how thick the bristles are.

Sorry for the creepy eye photo, but here is a close up. On the left I am wearing Lash Paradise, and on the right I am wearing It’s A Long Story.

I did not use an eyelash curler for the pictures to give you more of a true glimpse of each product on its own, but I do (always) use an eyelash curler with both because I have dead straight lashes.

L’Oreal is much more affordable: $15.99 at Shoppers versus Arbonne’s at $49. After trying out Lash Paradise I think I prefer it over It’s A Long Story. Don’t get me wrong, I still love It’s A Long Story but I prefer the thicker fuller look which I get from Lash Paradise.

IMG_2891This is not to say I won’t be purchasing It’s A Long Story again, I am just impressed with the volume from Lash Paradise.

If you are looking for something more lightweight, already have fuller lashes and are looking to lengthen and separate them, It’s A Long Story is the one for you. However, if you are like me and need the volume and fuller look, I highly suggest you try Voluminous Lash Paradise.

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer

I had read some amazing reviews about a new contour concealer by Tarte called Shape Tape. I didn’t really start using concealer until after I had babies. Newborns bring a whole new meaning to bags under the eyes. Am I right? I had tried several concealers in the past and never found one that I really loved and figured I might as well test this one out. Off to Sephora I went, only to find out Shape Tape was not available for purchase in any Canadian stores. Ugh. It was exclusive to Ulta, or had to be ordered from Tarte directly.

I ended up purchasing one that I was told was similar to Shape Tape by NARS. I have to admit, it was probably the best concealer I had tried up to that point. Shortly after this, a girlfriend of mine was travelling to the US and said she was going to pay a visit to Ulta so I told her she HAD to pick up some Shape Tape concealer. I did some research to best guess which shade I would be, but told her to use her judgment in the end.

I was so excited to try it and boy oh boy let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

The first thing I noticed was how thick the applicator brush was (is that what it’s called?). The brush was more than twice the size of any concealer brush I’ve used, specifically the one by NARS. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Radiant Cream Concealer by NARS, it is definitely impressive and the price point is what you would expect with a decent cream concealer ($37). Typically I apply it under my eyes in the shape of a scalene triangle, a plus sign in the middle of my forehead and chin, and then a strip down my nose. I then use a beauty blender (wet slightly) to blend it into the highlight areas.

This is where Shape Tape steals the show. The coverage is phenomenal. I can do all of the mentioned areas of my face in one swoop whereas with the NARS concealer, I have to insert the applicator for each area of my face.

Look at that applicator! See what I mean?

As for the coverage, Tarte chose the perfect name for this contour concealer because that’s exactly how it goes on your skin. It’s smooth, light and the coverage is amazing. The shade I wear is “Light”, and I have fair skin with pink undertones. I will however opt for a darker shade in the summer.

It is long lasting and the coverage stays put the entire day, without the need for reapplication. The only area that could use a little touch up by the evening is my nose, because I have an oily T-zone.

If you have the chance to test out Shape Tape, I highly recommending doing so. If not, my second recommendation would definitely be NARS Radiant Cream Concealer which is available from Sephora.

(I’ve also heard great things about Tarte’s Shape Tape Matte Foundation, so I am adding that to my list of products to try.)

Lord Elgin Hotel & A Glimpse of Ottawa

Last weekend I stayed at the Lord Elgin hotel in Ottawa and it was lovely. The hotel is located downtown Ottawa and is within walking distance of the Rideau Canal, Confederation Park and Parliament Hill. This historic landmark was constructed in 1941 but has received numerous renovations since, giving it a more modern feel while staying true to it’s heritage.

I stayed in their Parkview Room which really speaks true to it’s name. The view in the day was beautiful and the view at night was no different. I can only imagine how breathtaking the it would be in the summer. (If you follow me on Instagram you can see my entire room tour saved to my story highlights.)

The room was clean, cozy and bright. The bathroom had a large marble shower and a large window which is not something you often see in a bathroom in a hotel. There was a  Keurig in the room which was great but I opted for Starbucks which is conveniently located in the lobby (bonus). There is also a steakhouse located in the lobby, Grill 41. I was only there for one night and didn’t have a chance to try it out, but the menu looked amazing.

One of my favourite things about the hotel is it’s how close it is to so many tourist attractions! I had a few things I wanted to see/do while I was there and everything was within walking distance. (The only thing that wasn’t that I had to drive to was the Tanger Outlet but it was still less than a 15 minute drive from the hotel.)

I walked from the Lord Elgin to Parliament Hill (a 5 min walk)
From Parliament Hill to Byward Market (a 10 min walk)
From Byward Market to the National Gallery of Canada (5 min walk)
From the National Gallery of Canada to the Rideau Centre (less than a 10 min walk)
From the Rideau Centre back to the Lord Elgin (less than a 10 min walk)

I loved that everything I wanted to see in my short trip was within walking distance of the hotel, and let me tell you it was COLD, so I was even more thankful for the short distances.

Just a glimpse into some of the places I visited:

If you are looking to visit Ottawa book your stay at the Lord Elgin, and enjoy everything the beautiful city has to offer!
